First Reconciliation: Experiencing God's Loving Mercy
Before our children are welcomed to the Lord's Table for First Communion, the Church offers them another beautiful and healing gift: the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is a child's first experience of the profound peace and joy that comes from hearing the words, "I absolve you of your sins." It is a celebration of God's infinite mercy, a loving embrace that wipes the slate clean and lets us begin again.
Preparing for this sacrament cleanses our hearts, giving us a peaceful soul ready to welcome Jesus more fully in the Holy Eucharist—the Most Blessed Sacrament.
Our Gentle Journey to Reconciliation
Our preparation for First Reconciliation is a gentle and age-appropriate journey that takes place in the fall as part of our two-year First Communion program (typically in the second grade).
We focus on helping children understand:
- God's Unconditional Love: That God's mercy is always bigger than our mistakes.
- Making Good Choices: Learning the difference between right and wrong in a simple way.
- The Power of Saying Sorry: Understanding how to make a good and peaceful Confession.
Our goal is to remove any anxiety and replace it with a confident and peaceful understanding of this beautiful gift of healing.
