Whether you have a new addition to your family or you an unbaptized adult exploring your faith journey, Baptism is the initiation rite that begins your path to a mature, life-changing Catholic faith.
If You Have a Newborn in Your Family
Congratulations on the newest member of your family! The birth of a child is a precious gift, and our entire parish family at Blessed Sacrament rejoices with you. We are thrilled that you are seeking the Sacrament of Baptism, the first step on your child's beautiful journey of faith.
The Gift of New Life in Christ
Baptism is the sacred doorway through which your child is welcomed into the family of God. In a beautiful moment with a splash of holy water and the words, "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit," your child is washed clean of original sin, sealed forever as Christ's own, and becomes a beloved member of His Church.
Here at Blessed Sacrament, we see Baptism as the beginning of a lifelong journey that leads us to the heart of our faith: the Eucharist. This sacrament opens your child's heart to a life of grace, setting them on the path to one day receive Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament at the altar.
Our Journey Together: Steps to Baptism for Your Child
We want to make preparing for this joyous occasion as simple and meaningful as possible. Here is our process:
- Initial Contact: Your first step is a simple call or email to the parish office. We will answer your initial questions and help you begin the process.
- Baptism Preparation Class: To help you prepare for this day, we invite parents (and godparents, if they are able) to a single, welcoming one-hour session. This is a time to reflect on the beauty of the sacrament and your sacred role as the first teachers of the faith. This class is required for parents baptizing their first child.
- Choosing Godparents: Prayerfully choose Godparents who will be a source of spiritual support and a positive example of faith for your child. To ensure your child has the best possible spiritual mentor, the Church asks that at least one Godparent be a practicing, confirmed Catholic who values the gift of faith.
- Scheduling the Celebration: Once the preparation is complete, we will work with you to schedule the Baptism, which typically takes place during one of our weekend Masses, welcoming your child in the presence of our entire parish family.
