Deacon Michael Colabufo is a dedicated member of the clergy serving the linked parishes of Blessed Sacrament Church and St. Vincent de Paul Church. A lifelong educator, he brings a wealth of experience in leadership and service to his ministry.
Deacon Colabufo was ordained a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Syracuse on May 14, 2016, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception by Bishop Robert J. Cunningham. His path to the diaconate followed a distinguished career in education, culminating in his role as the superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Syracuse, a position from which he retired in 2009. His commitment to faith and community has also been demonstrated through his volunteer work, which includes providing spiritual care ministry at St. Joseph's Hospital.
At Blessed Sacrament and St. Vincent de Paul, Deacon Colabufo is an active presence. He is a member of the Parish Pastoral Council, assists at Mass, and is a regular homilist, sharing his insights and faith with the congregation. His service extends into the wider community as well, where he has been called upon to offer invocations at civic events, such as for the Syracuse Common Council.
Deacon Colabufo is married to his wife, Sharon. He is also a grandfather, an experience he has publicly cherished. Known as a faith-driven individual, his transition from leading the diocesan school system to serving as a deacon reflects a deep and abiding commitment to the Catholic Church and the Syracuse community.
