Dc. Daniel Stevens
Deacon
A man of diverse talents, Deacon Daniel Stevens brings a unique blend of faith, business acumen, and a passion for the arts to his ministry at the linked parishes of Blessed Sacrament Church and St. Vincent de Paul Church in Syracuse.
Ordained a permanent deacon on May 10, 2014, Deacon Stevens is deeply integrated into the life of his parish communities. At Blessed Sacrament, he is responsible for guiding newcomers to the faith through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). At St. Vincent de Paul, he provides compassionate care to grieving families as the head of the bereavement ministry. He also regularly preaches at Masses in both churches.
Beyond his parish duties, Deacon Stevens holds significant responsibilities within the Diocese of Syracuse. He serves as the Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies and also shares his knowledge with future clergy as a homiletics instructor in the deacon-formation program.
Before his ordination, Deacon Stevens pursued a secular career, earning a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from SUNY Plattsburgh and an MBA from Syracuse University's Martin J. Whitman School of Management. He remains active in the secular world through his deep involvement in community theater. An accomplished actor and director, he has appeared in over 40 productions and has directed for Syracuse Shakespeare-In-The-Park. He views this artistic passion, which he shares with his wife, as a key part of his diaconal identity, stating that deacons are "called to have one foot in both the secular world and in the clerical world."
