A Privilege of Service and Prayer
Here at Blessed Sacrament parish, our Altar Servers are entrusted with a special privilege: to serve at the very heart of our worship, the altar where Christ becomes truly present for us in the Eucharist. More than just assistants, our servers are active participants in the sacred liturgy, offering their time and attention as a prayer to God. By serving so close to the mystery of the Mass, they follow the call of Pope St. John Paul II to be "special friends of Jesus."
The Role of an Altar Server
With reverence and focus, altar servers assist the priest and deacon so that the liturgy can be celebrated with grace and dignity. Their responsibilities include carrying the processional cross and candles, holding the sacred books, assisting in the preparation of the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist, and ringing the bells at the consecration. Through their dignified actions and prayerful participation, servers become role models for the entire congregation, guiding all of us into deeper worship.
Growing in Faith, Responsibility, and Friendship
Serving at the altar is a powerful way for our young people to grow in their faith. It provides an unparalleled opportunity to learn the details of the Mass, deepen their love for Christ in the Eucharist, and understand their role in the life of the Church. This ministry also instills a valuable sense of responsibility, discipline, and teamwork, all while building strong friendships with other young parishioners who share their commitment to Christ.
An Invitation to Serve
We invite all young men and women of our parish who have received their First Holy Communion and have completed the fourth grade to prayerfully consider this special ministry. The most important qualities for a server are a desire to serve God, a commitment to being reverent and responsible, and the willingness to learn. Parental support is essential to this ministry's success.
No prior experience is necessary! Our parish provides comprehensive training for all new servers to ensure they are comfortable and confident in their roles. If you or your child feels called to serve our Lord and our parish in this unique and rewarding way, please contact the parish office or fill out the form on this page to learn more about our next training session.
