Monsignor Richard Kopp is the pastor of the linked parishes of Blessed Sacrament Church and St. Vincent de Paul Church in Syracuse, NY. A veteran priest of the diocese for over five decades, he is widely known for his pastoral leadership, his focus on social justice and parish vitality, and his engaging homilies.
Ordained on May 17, 1969, Msgr. Kopp's journey as a priest has taken him to numerous parishes throughout the Diocese of Syracuse. A significant portion of his ministry was spent as the beloved pastor of Our Lady of Solace Church in Syracuse for 28 years. He also served as pastor at St. Ann's Church in Syracuse and St. Joseph's Church in Camillus.
In 2011, amid diocesan-wide pastoral planning, Msgr. Kopp was appointed pastor of both Blessed Sacrament and St. Vincent de Paul, a role he initially expected to be temporary. He has since guided the two distinct communities, fostering collaboration while preserving each parish's unique identity. He is a prominent voice in the local community, often providing commentary on church matters in the media. In recognition of his dedicated service, he was elevated to the rank of Monsignor, receiving the title "Chaplain to His Holiness."
Before entering the seminary, Msgr. Kopp earned a degree from Le Moyne College. Throughout his long and distinguished career, he has been a consistent and respected presence, known for his commitment to the people he serves.
